Scarf Window Treatment
The term soft window covering is somewhat
encompassing as it covers any kind of window treatment which can
be twisted, draped, or tied back. You can find these window
treatments made of many different materials the only requirement
is that they are fluid and can be arranged attractively from a
curtain rod.
The most obvious types of soft window
coverings are curtains and drapes. These fabulously versatile
window coverings come in all kinds of fabrics among those:
tapestries, velvets, sheers, damasks, cottons, linens, chiffons,
silks, and satins. Of course this list isn't inclusive, it s
quite possible that if it s one of these materials you can buy
it and make soft curtains from it. Things to consider when
purchasing fabrics to use as window coverings include the
following:
1) Where you will be placing the curtains
(which room)?
2) What kind of coverage you need from
damaging UV rays as well as for privacy?
3) How well will the fabric blend with
your decor?
Window shades are also often considered soft
window coverings. This is particularly true if they are made
from a soft fabric material rather than a rigid vinyl. The
problem is that they cannot exactly be draped or tied in the
manner that soft curtains can so many feel they do not qualify.
Valances can also be soft window coverings. A
valance is a long strip of material, that generally comes in
either two contrasting colors or two contrasting fabrics and is
wound around a curtain rod then hung over the window for
decorative purposes.
Soft swags are also excellent choices for
soft window coverings. Swags are a type of crown for your window
treatment. They sit above the curtain rods and are often used in
more formal rooms to enhance the d cor. If you re a savvy
shopper, you can often find great deals on combination packages
that include swags, drapery, and decorative curtain rods that
blend wonderfully together.
If you re looking for something small, cheap,
and easy to use as a soft window covering try a large ladies
scarf. Choosing a scarf that has fringe adds another decorative
touch to the window covering. You simply fold the scarf so that
it forms a triangle. Then you hang the scarf on a decorative
curtain rod and you have a nice touch for your room. You can
also elect to attach the scarf by using curtain hooks that pinch
the fabric. This is a far less formal type of window treatment
but highly effective. These curtains should be used in windows
that are rather low traffic and run little risk of being pulled
down by children or pets.
